E-commerce websites

Warwickshire web DesignersThere's more to websites than simply how they look

It is now second nature for customers to browse products and services online and purchase them, without even leaving the comfort of their chair.

If you offer goods and services, and are not offering these to customers online, you are missing out on your slice of the estimated £7 billion spent on e-commerce sites each and every year. And that figure is set to grow.

It is easy to set up a basic website, providing a list of products and a contact us link for customers to enquire further about making a purchase. However, this detracts from the main selling points of an e-commerce website - the speed, ease and efficiency you can order products online.

There are two main options available to you. The first is to have a shopping cart on your website to collate the items your customer wishes to purchase, and that data is then sent to a third-party website to process the payment. There are a few well respected third-party websites of this nature, but we tend to work with Paypal.

The advantages of using Paypal to process your payments are that users respect the Paypal brand and know their transaction will be secure. Secondly, it is much easier to set up and integrate into your website, which translates to lower set-up costs for you.

Alternatively, it is possible to have a fully integrated shopping cart and checkout, meaning users can shop and process payments without ever leaving your site. This option is more expensive to set up than the previous option, but you will be able to process all credit and debit card transactions yourself.

You will also need to have an Internet-Ready Merchant Account, a Payment Gateway and an SSL certificate. You can find out more about these in our FAQ section.
